    IN SHORT

North Metric connects to Stripe through a Stripe App, and the free churn report only reads.

For usage, it reads Stripe Meters on usage-based and fixed + usage plans and PostHog on flat and seat plans, with invoice history as a fallback for usage-billed customers. Billing has to run on Stripe.

    02STRIPE METERS

    Stripe Meters forusage-based plans.

For usage-based and fixed + usage plans: the usage you already bill on, tied to each Stripe customer.

Usage MRR is the average of each customer’s last 3 metered invoices, so money at risk matches your invoices.

A steady decline against the customer’s own baseline raises their risk, and usage-only customers who slow down show as fading.

Reading Meters uses the Meters read permission included in the Stripe App, used only for usage-based and fixed + usage plans.

Usage billed through Metronome isn’t supported yet. Our guide to metered billing on Stripe covers what meters mean for churn.

    03POSTHOG

    PostHog forproduct usage.

For flat and seat plans, usage comes from PostHog, connected in setup and matched to each Stripe customer.

    ONE SEAT PLANEXAMPLE
    BILLING · STRIPE$1,200/mo, unchanged
    LOGINS · POSTHOGdown 38% in 4 weeks

On a flat or seat plan, billing doesn’t move until a seat cut or a cancel.

PostHog shows the logins and activity that fall first.

On usage-based plans it’s optional, adding earlier warning and feature-level signals on top of Meters.

Feature-level drops need events you already track by name. See what gets flagged on usage drops.

    05FAQ

    Questions aboutintegrations.

No. The free churn report uses Stripe billing only, and without PostHog, flat and seat plans are scored on billing alone. Usage-based plans read Stripe Meters, with invoice history as a fallback, one billing period late.
