    IN SHORT

Hybrid SaaS: a flat platform fee plus usage or credits.

Churn often shows in the usage first: the customer keeps the base plan while usage or credit spend falls, so revenue shrinks before any cancel. Catching it means reading Stripe billing and metered usage together and ranking each customer by the money at risk on both parts.

    05MONEY AT RISK

    How money at riskis counted.

Usage MRR is the average of the customer’s last 3 metered invoice amounts, or fewer when the history is shorter, added to the flat fee as is.

    THE MATHEXAMPLE
    Platform feeas is$500Usage invoices$1,200 · $900 · $600Usage MRRaverage of last 3 invoices$900
At risk if the customer leaves$1,400/mo

That one figure feeds money at risk, the ranking, the free churn report and Kept MRR.

The customer page labels it “average of last 3 invoices”, so you can check the math. A sustained fall in that average against the 3 invoices before it counts as usage contraction.

Kept MRR counts customers kept by a move at what they pay now.

Tied to invoices, and never Stripe’s own recoveries. A comparison group of at-risk customers left alone shows what changed: see how we measure money kept.
