A good SaaS churn rate is one at or below the median for companies at your stage, measured monthly. Churn rate is the share of customers, or of MRR, lost in a month. Churn tends to run lower at later stages, so compare your rate with your own MRR band rather than one industry average.

How to calculate customer churn →Customer vsrevenue churn.
Customer churn counts the accounts you lose. Revenue churn counts the MRR you lose. Read the two together.
Customer churn rate is the share of customers at the start of a month who cancel during it. North Metric's churn rate formula leaves out customers who joined and left in the same period, and customers who came back, so a failed signup or a return isn't counted as churn.
Gross MRR churn is the MRR lost to cancellations and downgrades, before any expansion. Net MRR churn subtracts upgrades and reactivations, so it can go below zero when existing customers grow faster than others leave.
The gap between them tells you who is leaving. When gross MRR churn sits below customer churn, the customers who leave tend to be smaller ones. If your revenue churn runs above your customer churn, your larger accounts are leaving or cutting seats, and that costs the most.
How to readthe numbers.
Five rules for comparing your own rate with these tables.
Top quartile is the best 25%
For churn, that's the lowest rates at each stage. The median is the company in the middle.
Every rate is monthly
Where a source reported annual figures, they're converted to a monthly rate so stages compare like for like.
Net MRR churn can go below zero
Below zero means expansion from existing customers outweighed what was lost.
Compare with your own stage
Churn tends to run higher at earlier stages, so an all-company average can make you look better or worse than you are.

Where the datacomes from.
The ranges come from internal and external databases of SaaS subscription data, grouped by MRR band. Data from Apr 2026, reviewed Oct 2026.
Each stage shows the 25th, 50th and 75th percentile of monthly churn for companies in that MRR band. Customer churn is reported monthly. Gross and net MRR churn are worked out from annual revenue retention and converted to a monthly rate, which the note under the table marks.
These figures describe SaaS companies in general. They can't tell you which of your own customers are likely to leave next. That's the job of churn prediction: every paying customer on your Stripe gets a 0–100 risk score, and the list is ranked by money at risk.

Churn ratequestions.
Short answers. The table above has the numbers.
One at or below the median for your stage in the table above; the top quartile is better still. Churn tends to run lower at later stages, so a rate that's fine for an early company can be high for a larger one.
